Rotors Over Mentone 2014 Coming this Saturday!

The Lawrence D. Bell Aircraft Museum will be hosting its 5th Annual "Rotors Over Mentone" fly-in event scheduled for Saturday,
Sep 6th starting at 10 am. The Bell Aircraft Museum is located at 210 South Oak St, Mentone, IN. The event will offer helicopter
rides by American Huey 369 (with membership) and Goshen Helicopter Inc. Food, drink, and free parking are also provided.

Special guest and speaker for the event will be Joey Rhodes, or “Mr. Bell 47” as he is known to many in the helicopter industry.
Joey is currently president, CEO, and Hall of Fame member of the Bell 47 Helicopter Association (B47HA). In addition, Joey is a
Southern Illinois high-time commercial airplane and helicopter pilot, and an aviation broker.

The Bell Model 47 became the first commercially certificated helicopter in 1946. The aircraft is best identified by its signature bubble
cockpit along with its lattice tail boom. The production run for the Bell 47 ended in 1973 with over 6600 Bell 47’s produced and over
1986 variants.

In 2001, the B47HA was created. Its purpose was to honor the Bell 47 helicopter, coordinating support for existing Bell 47 models
and owners, eliminating bogus parts and dealers, and informing members with its 50 mega page website and through special events
such as the Bell 47 EXPO, one week on-line round table events, and east coast-west coast fly-ins. Since that time, Joey and the
association have grown from sixteen Bell 47 members to over a listing of 700 members. B47HA has been successful in putting scam
artists out of business and recovering cash for the victims of the scams.

Audiences will be treated to two programs by Joey Rhodes on Sep 6th. The first program entitled, “The Bell 47 Helicopter Legend”,
will inform people how the Bell 47 was developed and how it became known as “The helicopter that saved so many lives.” The second
program entitled, “Inside “The Whirlybirds” TV Show” and presented by Joey (who was also the co-star of The New Whirlybirds), will
be a special 30-minute show highlighting the 1950’s Desilu production TV series “The Whirlybirds” which helped popularize the Bell 47.

A total of 111 Whirlybirds episodes were produced. Some of the episodes can be found on YouTube such as Fury Canyon featuring the
Bell 47G-2 Trooper and Dog Gone featuring the Bell 47J Ranger.
