12th Annual Rotors Over Mentone – 2021

Despite COVID-19 still around, a lot of people did attend. The weather was great enough to allow visiting helicopters from northern Indiana to attend as well.
This year’s event theme at the Museum honored our First Responders and Frontline Workers (Fire and Police, Emergency Medical Services) and our Military who are considered our heroes. This day marked the 20th anniversary of the coordinated terrorist attack that took place on Sept. 11, 2001 which resulted in 2977 victims. Phil Smith, guest speaker and a U.S. Marine veteran, reflected on this date, our nation’s history, and how this country had united. In honor to first responders, frontline workers and the military, Museum Board President Tim Croy asked those individuals in attendance to stand so they could be recognized for their contribution. He thanked them for their service.

Other program participates included the Legion Post 49 Color Guard and select band members of the Tippecanoe Valley High School (TVHS) under the direction of Janell Riner. Museum Board Member Tim Whetstone brought on a trailer the fuselage of a Bell Model 48 that he is currently restoring.

Cleveland Helicopter Services returned this year giving rides in their Enstrom 280FX. John Walker and American Huey 369 also returned giving membership rides in their Bell UH-1H (369) following the program. Oldies 101.1 WOIE broadcasted Live for most of the event. Food and drink were offered by the Museum at their food tent. The Museum’s gift shop was open for those wanting to purchase a T-shirt, an aircraft model, or maybe a toy for the kids. Admission to the event was free. There was something for everyone. It was a nice day to for people to get out. Pictures taken at this year’s “Rotors” event can be viewed in our Image Gallery.
